Roadtrippin' Down the Pacific Coast Highway

Roadtrippin' Down the Pacific Coast Highway

Well, hello there, fellow wanderlusters and road trip enthusiasts! Are you ready to embark on a journey that will make you want to roll down the windows, blast your favorite tunes, and let the salty breeze tousle your hair? Well, buckle up because we're about to take on the iconic Pacific Coast Highway!

Now, before we dive headfirst into this adventure, let's talk timing. Picture this: it's a sunny day in late spring, the birds are chirping, and the wildflowers are blooming along the rugged coastline. That's the perfect time to kick off your Pacific Coast Highway escapade. The weather is just right, and you'll avoid the summer crowds while still enjoying pleasant temperatures.  Really any time that isn't the typical rainy season is the perfect time to go... just get out there and experience it.  If you wait for the 'perfect weather', you'll miss out!

Alrighty, let's get down to business. How long is this road trip gonna take, you ask? Well, buckle up because we're in it for the long haul, my friend! From the charming city of Astoria, Oregon, to the sun-kissed shores of San Diego, California, you're looking at roughly 10 to 14 days of pure coastal bliss - a total of 1650 from end to end!  That is impressive! But hey, who's counting when every mile is packed with breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences?  You can of course start at any point on the PCH and travel in any direction but this article will highlight from the very northern end to the southern end.

The best road trips are the ones where you decide to go on a whim, throw a few things in a bag and just go but as I age (gracefully), I like to have a little planning done first before I hit the road.  And for those spur of the moment stops along the way, well let me introduce you to our trusty sidekick that I have just started using and would be perfect for this adventure: Roadtrippers! This nifty app - and website too! - is like having a personal tour guide in your pocket (did you read our blog about using a local tour guide?? - its a must!  This is the next best thing since you'll be changing your location every few hours), helping you discover hidden gems and must-see attractions along your designated route. Simply plug in your starting point and destination, and let Roadtrippers do the rest. It'll suggest all sorts of cool stops, from quirky roadside attractions to scenic overlooks and everything in between.  You don't know what you don't know but what you don't know, Roadtrippers knows!

As we cruise further down the coast, don't forget to consult Roadtrippers for some insider tips on the best places to stop. First up, we've got Cannon Beach, Oregon, home to the majestic Haystack Rock. Trust me, you'll want to snap a selfie with this towering monolith rising from the ocean like a prehistoric giant.

And let's not forget about McWay Falls! Tucked away in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, this hidden gem will take your breath away with its 80-foot cascade plunging onto a pristine beach below. It's like a scene from a fairy tale, I promise you!

Next, Roadtrippers could also lead you to Santa Barbara (and I highly recommend it!), with its Spanish colonial architecture, palm-lined streets, and laid-back vibe. Grab a bite to eat at a local seafood joint, soak up some sun on the beach, and maybe even indulge in a little wine tasting at one of the nearby vineyards. Ahh, the good life!

And finally, our journey comes to a close in sunny San Diego, where the beaches are golden, the fish tacos are plentiful, and the vibe is oh-so-California-cool. Kick off your shoes, dig your toes into the sand, and bask in the glory of a road trip well done.

So there you have it, folks! The Pacific Coast Highway awaits, with its stunning scenery, charming towns, and endless opportunities for adventure. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your epic road trip today, and don't forget to bring along your trusty sidekick, Roadtrippers, for an unforgettable journey down the coast!  If you decide to take the trip or have traveled in part or the whole thing - please consider leaving a comment on this blog and let us know your favorite places to stop along the way.

Until next time y'all.....

XO,

Theresa
