5 Ways to Truly Relax on a Family Vacation

As a mom myself, I know that taking a break and spending time with your family on vacation can be a great way to unwind and cash in on some togetherness time. However, it's not always easy to let go of the stress and fully relax. That's why in this blog post, I'm going to share with you 5 ways to truly relax while on vacation with your family.

  1. Unplug from Technology

The best way to really connect with our family is to disconnect from technology and all the other vices that pull our attention elsewhere.  To be in the moment means to be disconnected from everyone else's moments.

Our constant connection to technology can be a major source of our stress, even when we're on vacation. To truly relax, try unplugging from technology as much as possible or altogether. This means setting boundaries around technology use and designating certain times of the day for checking emails or messages or simply leaving your phone behind when you go out for the day to fully disconnect and enjoy your surroundings and loved ones.

  1. Make Time for Yourself

As a mom, we are always taking care of everyone else's needs - packing lunches, making breakfast, dishes, laundry, etc.  And before we know it, its dinner time and we haven't showered yet.  Don't let this happen on vacation!  It's so easy to let that routine and sense of responsibility bleed over into your vacation as well, but it's important to make time for yourself too. Whether it's taking a solo walk, reading a book by the pool, or booking a spa day, find activities that bring you joy and help you recharge your batteries.  When we take care of ourselves, we become even more amazing moms, wives and friends to those around us.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness can help you relax and be more present in the moment. This could be as simple as taking deep breaths and focusing on your senses or practicing meditation. You can even try a mindfulness exercise with your family, like a nature walk or a gratitude journal.

A morning yoga routine or sitting beachside with your coffee is also a great way to be mindful and become grounded before the day of activities begin.

  1. Embrace Slow Travel

Taking your time to explore your destination can help you fully immerse yourself in the experience and avoid feeling rushed or stressed. Try taking a leisurely stroll, having a picnic in a park, or simply sitting and people-watching. When you slow down and take things at a more relaxed pace, you'll find that you're able to fully enjoy and appreciate your surroundings all while making memorable moments you will likely remember much longer.

  1. Let Go of Expectations

Finally, one of the most important ways to truly relax on vacation is to let go of expectations. It's easy to get caught up in trying to make every moment perfect, but this can actually add to your stress levels. Instead, embrace the unexpected and focus on enjoying the present moment with your family.

BONUS: Embrace the "Pura Vida" lifestyle as much as possible.  Embody the idea of enjoying life's simple pleasures, being grateful for what you have, and living life to the fullest and you will find yourself full of smiles and pure enjoyment.

Taking a family vacation can be a wonderful way to relax and spend time with loved ones. By unplugging from technology, making time for yourself, practicing mindfulness, embracing slow travel, and letting go of expectations, you can create a truly relaxing experience that leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. So go ahead and plan that next vacation and remember to prioritize your relaxation and wellbeing.

If you implemented any of these tips during your vacation, I'd love to hear from you and how it worked out by leaving a comment on this blog article.  I also encourage you to share it, tweet it and pin it for others to gain the benefit as well.

Until next time!

XOXO ~Theresa
